May Bowser Report at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

May 8, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa has been busy, and we are happy to fill our readers in with the May Bowser Report!

Splashing Good Fun at our Water Feature!

The warm weather makes our water feature one of the most popular activities at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa.

We’ve had reports of some dogs that “didn’t like water” be the first ones to run in and splash around…or…watch before they splash around. But really, who doesn’t want to be involved in games once we see all our pals having fun?

Pet Spa Days are Popular!

Word has it the dogs are all bragging about the most excellent care they are receiving at our Dog Grooming facility. Pampered pooches are strutting around with new pooch cuts, nail trims, and facials, and we couldn’t be more pleased! Our groomers are some of the best professionals around, making sure each dog is treated to the very best in grooming and pampering!

Who’s up for some TLC? With summer here, the de-shedding treatment is a welcome relief for dogs and people alike! While you’re there, ask for the blueberry facial and the nail polish! Even the most manly mutt would love to be rubbed, scrubbed, and treated like a King for the day!

Vacation Mode is ON!

Staying home was so 2020. 2021 is here and our hooman’s are ready to travel! Have you heard the new saying? “When the hooman’s play, the dogs get to stay”? Well, there’s no time like the present to make your Summer Reservations for Dog and Cat Boarding at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa!

Picture: temperature-controlled rooms soothing music, love, affection, attention, and the added safety bonus of the owner living on site! What else could a dog or cat ask for?

Tell your people that new boarders get the first night free! (subject to availability of course!).

Benefits of Dog Training

April 15, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

Every year, millions of dogs and puppies are turned into animal rescue services or shelters due to behaviors their owners said were unmanageable.

However, with the proper care and treatment, love, time, boundaries and training, “unmanageable” dogs and puppies can turn into some of the most well-trained dogs.

What Causes Bad Dog Behavior?

Dogs are not born bad. While it is true many breeds get bad reputations, the simple truth is, dogs are products of their environment.

If left without the proper care and training, dogs don’t develop the proper skills necessary to be the best versions of themselves. There are a lot of reasons dogs develop and practice bad behaviors.

Instinct

If your dog has ever rolled in dirt, a dead animal, mud, or gasp, poop! there is a good chance it is due to instinct and not to annoy you. The same is true for behaviors such as digging, chewing, and chasing.

While these behaviors are often natural and fun for Fido, behavioral instruction can be taken to eliminate or lessen these behaviors.

Health Issues

If a dog is not feeling well and experiencing some type of health issue, it may act up. Biting, growling, defecating in the house, chewing, eating items, or other unacceptable behaviors may be cause for you to take your dog to your vet.

Mixed Signals by Owners

Many owners are shocked to learn they are sending mixed signals to their dogs which actually reinforce poor behavior. Let’s take barking as an explanation.

It’s a natural tendency for a dog to bark. Dogs bark because they are protecting their territory, warning you, trying to get your attention, bored, lonely, irritated, greeting another dog or person, surprise, annoyed, and so much more.

Surprisingly, an owner’s reaction to their dog’s barking can be one of the causes of incessant or uncontrolled barking. If you laugh, play with, pet or even yell at a dog while it’s barking, you could be sending mixed signals to your dog to reinforce their barking.

Learn how to control barking with dog training.

Boredom and Not Enough Exercise

If your dog is destructive, chewing, digging, or tugging at your clothes to get your attention, there is reason to suspect your dog is bored or not getting enough exercise.

Dogs need to be stimulated with toys and appropriate items to chew and to be exercised according to the needs of their breed.

Some dogs are born to run, and that walk around the block is not sufficient. Dog parks and doggy daycare are much better outlets for high energy dogs when you cannot meet their needs.

It’s Not Too Late to Train Your Dog

Every dog deserves to have the privilege of being trained to be proper, walk without pulling on the leash, play well with others, and have a strong sense of identity, self-assurance, and manners.

Dog Training encourages your dog to have boundaries and to listen and obey you. With the proper techniques and training by professionals, your dog will be a welcomed addition wherever you go.

Dog Training at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

April 15, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

A recent article in Pleasanton Weekly reports a surge in animal adoptions due to the Pandemic. With more people working from home, isolation setting in, and conditions ripe for proper care for a new dog or cat, adoption centers found homes for almost all, if not all, of their adoptable animals.

This is great news for both owners and new pets, and The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa feels especially lucky to be able to meet and greet some new furry friends!

A Need for Dog Training

With the adorable surge in adopted dogs, The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa saw a need for dog training, and we filled it!

We are excited to announce Dog Training on premises! Professional Dog Handlers have partnered with us to get your dog trained to be on their best behavior!

Calling all Dogs!

Are you a dog who loves to chew on your hooman’s shoes, furniture, chords? Do you take food off the table? Do you run like a crazy, out of control kid chasing the ice cream man?

Does the thought of sitting and staying make you burst out of your skin in anticipation? Have you been scolded for jumping up, play biting, getting in the garbage? Do your potty habits need breaking or refining?

Are you just a might bit anxious or scared when your two-legged warrior leaves you? Does the thought of running into another doggie companion make you tug at the leash, growl, or bark until your paws lift off the ground? Do your walking manners need a refresh?

Then this Dog Training is for you!

Contact The Pet Resort and Spa for Dog Training Information

Congratulations on your new dog or for taking that extra step to make sure your current furred bestie is on her best behavior. We want to make sure you get the benefit of the training that goes into molding a rambunctious dog into a refined one whom others want to be around.

There are no bad dog-only ones who lack the proper training to make them the best on the block.

Everyone and every dog can learn something from our program; it is a great way for dogs to be socialized and introduced to people other than yourselves who have the experience to draw out the best in your dog.

What’s New at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

February 13, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

We’ve had a lot of excitement these past few weeks at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa! From touchdown terriers at our Super Bowl Party to smooching poochies at our Valentine’s Pawty, The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa has been filled with excitement!

The Results of Puppy Bowl 2021 are In!

This was a fantastic day for all who participated in Puppy Bowl 2021 and our Super Bowl Game! The day began with some trash talking and delicious steaks and hamburgers. Dogs were divided into teams and some took to the field with vengeance while others watched safely in the laps of our cheer staff!

Some dogs, such as Murphy, took to the field like a champ, converting the extra point and adding his own celebratory doggie dance. Crowds rushed the field to take his picture while he posed like a pro!

All fun and games aside, there were some worthy opponents and plays as well as our own singing and dancing Hot Dog whose rendition of The Weekend’s Blinding Lights impressed all the dogs!

The Winner of Puppy Bowl 2021 is…

We know you are all excited to hear about the outcome of the game. Here’s the commentary by The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa’s owner, Michael Gamache:

“The 4th quarter is getting hectic, some players are owning the field, some are exhausted and hiding, others have completely quit and are enjoying the sun. Congratulations to the Bucs and Sugar their most valuable player. Final score 21-17 Tampa Bay.”

Who knew these dogs would predict the winner of the Real Super Bowl?

Life is More Sweet with Valentine Kisses

We enjoyed a sweet day with our doggie daycare pups at our Valentine’s Pawty! Dogs showed up ready to smooch and shower the ones around them with juicy kisses. As with any romance, some connections were easily made, some are slow to grow, and well, others just haven’t met their match yet!

In any case, all dogs and staff were serenaded by our own costumed tutu’d dalmation, filled with sweet treats, and photographed at our kissing booth! Could this be any cuter?!

New Face of the Day!

We’d like to share The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa‘s New Face of the Day! This sweet adorable Frenchie, Louis, stole our hearts!

Plan Your Pup’s Staycation or Doggie Daycare at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

If you would like to take advantage of a day or days of love, affection, games, friends, toys, and more, please contact us. We treat your dog with the same safety, care, and attention as we treat our dogs and are recommended by veterinarians, too!

Helpful Tips to Socialize Your Dog

January 14, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

Women running with dogs - The Ranch Pet Resort

One of the best parts about being a dog owner is socializing your dog with other dogs and people. Dogs are pack animals who, for the most part, enjoy being around others for playtime, a gentle wrestling match, a game of chase, tug of war, hide and seek, or even naptime!

A well-socialized dog shows confidence, friendliness, and happiness! These behaviors are learned from puppyhood and carried on to adulthood. Some dogs learn acceptable and even non-acceptable “dog behaviors” from other dogs, so socializing your playful pooch is one of the best gifts you can give your dog.

Start Socializing Your Dog as Soon as Possible

Whether you just received your beloved pooch who is a young adult, have had him for years, or are the owner of a brand new puppy, now is the best time to slowly acclimate your dog to sights, sounds, and other dogs or people.

Dog Daycare - The Ranch Pet Resort

Dogs who are current on their shots can enjoy walks around the yard, the neighborhood, or around the perimeter of a nearby dog park.

Expose them to new sights, sounds, people, and even other dogs. Dogs of confident owners pick up their human’s cues, leading them to be better at not fearing new places, sights, sounds, and smells.

Let your dog ease into a dog park rather than introducing a newbie to the pack of dogs right away. Allowing your dog to take the initiative to approach from a safe distance outside the park will instill the confidence and excitement necessary for a fun first encounter inside the dog park!

Puppies Need Socializing, Too

Dog with little girl - The Ranch Pet Resort

Puppies develop the habits they form as adults during critical, developmental times in their lives. Beginning around 3 weeks and ending about the fifth month, the experiences a puppy has can determine his disposition. An under-socialized puppy tends to be more fearful and cautious whereas a well-socialized pooch tends to be bold, brave, and confident!

The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa recommends exposing your puppy to sounds around the home such as a vacuum, pots and pans, loud noises and TV’s or radios. Having people who have washed their hands over to pet, hug, hold, or even just be present around the pup teaches the puppy not to fear others.

Since your young puppy won’t have all its shots yet, do your socializing in your home or fenced yard. An unvaccinated pup is more susceptible to disease or illness.

There is still plenty of adventure to be had at home before the pup gets to experience the world outside from the other side of the door, window, or fence.

Socializing at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

Ask anyone of our furry canines what they love about The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa and they will tell you about the fun they have with their canine friends and our excellent staff!

Whether your dog is up for chase, playing ball, exploring our tunnels, tubes, and blocks, or just prefers the quieter time with our handlers, The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa puts socialization at the top of our priorities.

Have You Experienced the Fun at the New Water Park?

With weather in the 70’s in January, our dogs are having a howling great time splashing in the water, running through the squirt stations, or just lapping up the water in the shallow puddles.

The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa is the only dog park with the water feature, and it’s been rated one of the best parts of doggie daycare according to some very reputable and furry sources.

Events to Keep Your Dog Wanting to Come Back for More Dog Daycare

The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa is always coming up with creative activities for our fluffy guests. We get immense joy out of hosting events and watching your dogs eat, play, socialize, interact, exercise, and zonk out after a most pawsitively good time!

Whether it’s eating turkey out of a cone, chasing bacon flavored bubbles, or posing in front of the kennel’s first holiday party scene, our daycare and dog boarding friends get the royal treatment!
