Dog Obedience Training at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa

February 9, 2022 by Michelle Bedard

The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa is proud to offer Dog Obedience Training. From basic obedience to advanced training, our skilled dog handlers will teach your dog the commands it needs to feel happy, confident, and obedient.

Our professional dog handlers come on site to teach basic or advanced commands, correct bad behavior, socialize your dog, and reinforce some obedience skills your dog may be lacking.

Our dog obedience trainers are very well-loved and respected for their positive reinforcement, great attitudes (there are no bad dogs, only bad behaviors that can be corrected), and results!

Take a look at the video to see for yourself just how successful dog obedience training can be with the right dog handlers and the right environment.

Understanding Dog Behavior and Why Obedience Training is Necessary

Dogs have no sense of right or wrong and often perform behaviors that occur “naturally” to them. Digging, chewing, and barking are all normal behaviors to dogs, but without having these issues reinforced and corrected in the appropriate manner, the dog is bound to be destructive and disappoint its owner.

Dogs whose owners fail them in their efforts to take their natural instincts and modify them appropriately are set up to fail.

These dogs can become bored, aggressive, destructive, and often times discarded. But with the right training and trainers, these dogs become the talk of the neighborhood. Everyone enjoys a well-behaved dog!

January Bowser Report

January 28, 2022 by Michelle Bedard

It’s the start of the new year and The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa is excited to be offering on site training sessions again for those of our pups who are well…in need of some “manners.”

What started last year as an opportunity to teach old and new dogs manners has made its way back to The Ranch, and we couldn’t be more pleased!

“The dog training lessons were very well received by our existing members as well as new guests,” comments Michael Gamache, owner and Dog Hero of The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa.

“We recognize that some dogs and pups need some training to make life easier on their owners and make them more acclimated to socialize with others. We are proud to offer Dog Training by professional dog handlers trained to handle our beloved doggie daycare campers and boarders.”

If you think your dog might be a good candidate for some training or you have questions about the training program, please feel free to reach out to us! Just mention on site dog training and we will be happy to assist you!

Puppy Bowl 2022 is a Huge Success!

We at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa are all wiped out! Puppy Bowl 2022 went down in history as one of the most fun events of the year!

The day began with the smalls warming up for the game with some a little more aggressive than others and some just happy to participate from the comfort of the sidelines.

The bigs took some extra strides along the dog park in anticipation for a fierce competition. We heard some smack talk, but all in all, the warm up session went well beyond our expectations!

By the look of the days’ Game Faces, we knew we were in for a great Puppy Bowl 2022!

Puppy Bowl 2022 Game Faces

Excitement and Penalties During Puppy Bowl 2022

The dogs were definitely geared up for Puppy Bowl 2022, with all eyes, nose, and tongues awaiting the ref’s calls. Sadly, it looks like not all pups were good players as there were some penalties on the field.

Ref calls a time out to assess the penalty on the field.
Penalty called! Unsportsmanlike conduct. Luckily, the player wasn’t down for long!

The Winners of Puppy Bowl 2022 Have Been Named!

Congratulations to Sugar for being named MVP for the second time in a row. This feisty pup may be headed for bigger things, but we want the scouts to know she learned all she knows from The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa’s intensive training program.

Congratulations to all our MVPs-you are all winners in our eyes!

Consider Adopting a Pet During the Holidays? Here are Some Tips for Success!

December 15, 2021 by Michelle Bedard

Cat and dog under a christmas tree. Pets under plaid

Adding a new dog or cat to your family is an exciting time for sure! Who wouldn’t want to wake up to a fluffy new kitten or a roly poly puppy?

But even when a new pet is given with the greatest of intentions by the most well-meaning people, the sad truth of the matter is that many puppies and kittens who were lovingly gifted on Christmas get returned to the shelter.

The idea of surprising loved ones with a new pet is great! Until the reality sets in and the new pet becomes a chore to take care of. Or until the new puppy eats Aunt Lucy’s favorite slippers; or gets sick after eating something it shouldn’t; or has accidents because people forget how much work it is to potty train a puppy; or bites someone out of sheer fear of all these hands and faces wanting to get right up and close to the new pet.

If you are considering adopting a pet for the holidays, here are some tips for success!

  • Make certain the person/people you are gifting the pet to want a pet
  • Take seriously the responsibilities of a new pet-remember to consider its needs of food and water, exercise, medical care, training, toys, bedding, collars/leashes, treats
  • Make sure you can care for any medical needs beyond annual vaccinations
  • Give the pet ample time to settle into the family and give it time and space away from festivities. Animals get scared and need a safe place to hide, rest, and acclimate.
  • Consider a gift certificate in place of a pet so the recipient can choose his or her own pet
  • Understand a pet is for life-not just the holidays
  • Prepare in advance for the new pet by decluttering and keeping food and poisonous plants away. Click here for a link to foods to avoid during the holidays. Click here for a list of toxic plants that can cause death or illness to pets.
  • Enjoy this special time! Take pictures and videos and come join us at The Ranch Pet Resort and Spa for doggie daycare, doggie boarding, cat boarding, or dog grooming.
